How to Defrost the Refrigerator Quickly and Safely: Useful Tips

From time to time every housewife defrosts the refrigerator – it is necessary not only to get rid of ice and frost but also to maintain sanitary and hygienic standards.

How to properly defrost a modern refrigerator – instruction

In order to defrost your refrigerator quickly and safely, you need to perform several actions in turn:

  • Disconnect it from the power supply;
  • take out all the food;
  • dilute baking soda with water in a ratio (5:1) and with the help of the solution wash away all crumbs and dirt;
  • wipe the fridge with a dry sponge and plug it in.

After the refrigerator has been in operation for several hours, you can put the food back.

If you have a device with a drip defrosting system in your kitchen, however, this method will not work for you. It is better to do otherwise:

  • Unplug the fridge;
  • take out all the food;
  • Wait for the ice to melt (do not forget to wipe off the water);
  • wash the refrigerator, wipe it down with a dry cloth;
  • plug it in and put the food back in.

Refrigerators with the system “No Frost” differ from the drip system in that in the first case, you do not need to wait for the ice to melt, in addition, the food will not have time to spoil in the heat. But a device with a drip system requires heat packs, in which you put the food to keep it fresh.

Why does a snow coat form in the refrigerator

More often than not, warm air entering the refrigerator is the reason for the formation of a snow coat. Avoiding this is difficult since you open the refrigerator several times a day. “Snow coat” not only interferes with the rational placement of food in the refrigerator but also affects the operation of the compressor, which reduces the service life of the device.

How often to defrost the refrigerator

The main mistake people make when starting to defrost a refrigerator is to use a hair dryer, knife, electric heater, and other devices. In theory, they are supposed to speed up the defrosting process, but in fact, give a deplorable result.

In order to keep your appliances in proper condition and not ruin them, remember that older refrigerators need to be defrosted once every 2-3 months and “No Frost” once a year.
