How to choose a pineapple – what to pay attention to
Try to choose a ripe fruit, and not only because it tastes better – it can be easily peeled with an ordinary kitchen knife:
- “The pineapple should have green, thick and beautiful hair, and dense leaves – the leaves come off quickly and easily if the pineapple is ripe.
- The skin of a ripe pineapple should be brownish-yellow or slightly greenish. If it is completely brown, the fruit is overripe;
- The fruit should be firm but not stiff; it should be able to squeeze under your fingers;
- There should be no dents or damage on the pineapple, since the inside of the fruit may already be rotten.
Do not buy a green pineapple in the store – it is not a banana and it will not ripen at home.
How to peel and slice a pineapple in 1 minute
This is the easiest way to peel and slice:
- Cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple;
- stand the pineapple upright and slice off the skins – starting from the bottom up, there is no need to leave the “eyes” on the pineapple;
- cut the pineapple in half lengthwise and then cut both halves lengthwise into two more pieces;
- cut off the hard core of the quarters, this can be used to make the fraiche;
- Cut the resulting pieces lengthwise into two more pieces and cut them into portions.
Tip: Leave the peeled pineapple for half an hour at room temperature – it will become sweeter.
How to slice a pineapple beautifully without peeling it
The pineapple doesn’t have to be thinly peeled – you can take the pulp out of it and slice it:
- Cut the pineapple lengthwise into two pieces – the “neck” should also be divided, and then the halves into two more, also lengthwise;
- cut off the skin carefully from the quarters – so that you have a kind of stand;
- cut the cut pulp into slices and return them to their “native” plates, shifting them in staggered order.
You can, of course, just cut the raw pineapple into portions, but if you want to surprise, we advise serving the pineapple exactly on the “plates”.
