NLP Diet: Slim Thanks To Positive Thoughts

Wish you were slim: Instead of counting calories, you can lose weight with the pure power of thought. What’s the story behind this adventurous concept?

When the scale sounds the alarm, it’s time to lose a few kilos – or is there another way? If you don’t feel like cooking according to a diet recipe and counting calories, you can try NLP.

What is NLP?

NLP is the abbreviation for Neurolinguistic Programming. This technique was developed in the seventies by the American scientist’s John Grinder and Richard Brandler to influence communication; but if you communicate with yourself, you can also use this method as an autosuggestion to change your own beliefs, which may be outdated or not goal-oriented.

Change your attitude

What sounds a bit like self-hypnosis results in you virtually reprogramming yourself. Instead of laboriously fighting cravings and sadly sneaking around the fridge, this technique will change your inner beliefs and thus get to the root of the evil. After that, you should simply no longer have any desire for calorie-rich sins. You don’t have to lie down on the psychiatrist’s couch for this, but it is not impossible that you will have one or the other aha experience while tracking down your motivational bases and getting to know yourself better.

When can NLP be used?

NLP can also help you if you have often failed in losing weight because the mind was – apparently – willing but the flesh was weak. Even if you are a frustrated or boredom eater, you can change this by reprogramming.

The basic principle is quite simple: change your beliefs and your image of yourself, and your actions will automatically change – in this case, your eating behavior. Banish the image of yourself as the chocolate-addicted cookie monster who can only get through a cozy TV evening with snacks and sweets. Instead of being haunted by craving chocolate dreams, imagine the chocolate melting away and taking a more and more tiny place in your life.

What does NLP lead to?

It allows you to confront cravings, free yourself from a victim mindset, and create a more positive self-image instead. In addition, you anchor images of healthy foods in your mind. Instead of torturing yourself with strict diets and possibly going through frustrating yo-yo effects, you develop a more positive, loving self-perception. Such and other techniques on how to mentally program yourself for weight loss are taught in both special NLP courses and books.
