What to Plant Sprouts in February: The Most Popular Vegetables and Flowers

February is the last month of winter and a good time for sprouts. In February, gardeners plant vegetables in the greenhouse or on the windowsill. The month is considered good for sowing late-ripening and slow-growing crops. Beauty connoisseurs plant flower seedlings in February, which in the spring will please with bright buds.

What flowers to plant in seedlings in February

  • Daffodils and tulips are often planted in February so that they will bloom by March. It is recommended to add ash and sand to the soil. By spring, the bulbs are transplanted from seedlings into the bed.
  • Begonia is a successful flower for sprouts in February. In the soil for the flower, you should add some sand, peat, and decomposed leaves. Until the seeds germinate, the soil should be covered with foil.
  • Petunia is planted in mid to late February. It is best to plant the seeds in individual cups or in peat tablets. Seedlings should be placed in a well-lit place or additionally illuminated with a lamp.
  • Turkish cloves are planted in a mixture of leaf humus and sand in equal parts. Seeds are sown to a depth of 1 cm and spaced 3 cm apart. Seeds are covered with paper.

What to plant in sprouts in February: vegetables

Late-ripening tomatoes are planted in seedlings in the middle to the end of February. So you can get an early harvest of vegetables. Tomato seeds are sown in moist soil in small boxes, cups, or pots. The seeds are covered with 1 cm of soil and put in a warm place. Tomatoes are transplanted into the ground in April or May.

Medium-ripening and late bell peppers can be planted from the beginning of February. Seeds should be soaked in wet gauze or cloth before sowing. Plant peppers in cups – 2 seeds per cup. Slightly sprinkle the seeds with soil, cover them with film, and put them in a warm place. With the appearance of the first sprouts, remove the foil and put the peppers on the window sill.

Eggplant begins planting in mid-February. It is recommended to soak the seeds in a solution of manganese for 15 minutes to protect them from diseases. Sawdust and ash can be added to the soil for the eggplant. Two eggplant seeds are placed in one cup, lightly covered with damp soil, and covered with foil. It is very important to put the eggplants in a warm place. Sprouts will appear in a week.

Leeks and onions are planted in the middle of February. Before planting, the bulb should be soaked for one day in warm water. Then plant the bulbs in moist soil and put them on the window sill. The plant is transplanted into the open ground in May.

Berries to seedlings in February

In February, strawberries and strawberries are planted in seedlings, in order to harvest berries in early summer. Seeds need to soak and dry. Fill a shallow container no more than 4 cm in height with a mixture of soil and sand in equal proportions. Sprinkle the seeds evenly on the ground.
