What You Can Plant in the Garden in Mid-June: 7 Suitable Crops

Mid to late June is the most popular time to work in the vegetable garden, which is successfully used by gardeners.

What can be planted in late May-early June – a list

Before you start planting, prepare your beds – loosen them, remove weeds, and water the soil to provide it with the necessary amount of moisture. Remember that it is best to plant on a warm but not hot day.

Potatoes

For planting, choose early and medium-early varieties, then you will get a harvest by the fall. Prepared tubers were put in the ground to a depth of 8 cm, leaving a distance of at least 60 cm between the beds. Watering the potatoes is not necessary, but if you see that the summer is too hot – set up drip irrigation.

Zucchinis

The ideal time to grow zucchinis – is the second half of June, and it is also better to take early and medium-ripening varieties. Form wells of 5-6 cm deep, keeping a distance of 60-70 cm. In each hole put 2-3 pcs of seeds, and after germination, remove the weak ones. Don’t forget to water the seedlings a couple of times a week.

Beets and turnips

Crops planted in June will keep better over the winter than those that hit the spring gardening schedule. Beets are better planted in seedlings – so they will mature faster, but turnips can be sown in the open ground.

Plant turnips in beds at 10-15 cm intervals, with 2-3 seeds in each hole. After a while, remove the weak sprouts, and regularly water the rest. Previously, we told you in detail how to plant beets in a bed in the summer.

Beijing cabbage

Even this culture can be planted in the summer, but first, you will have to sow cabbage for seedlings and have time before mid-June. In this case, you will harvest in 2 months. In a container for sprouts, you need to put 1 grain of seeds. About a month after that, you can transplant cabbage into the open ground 45-50 centimeters from each other. Water 2-3 times a week.

String beans

The option of planting beans in June is suitable for those who like fresh beans and do not plan to can them for the winter. Before planting the beans should be prepared – soak them in warm water for a day, changing the liquid several times. Then in the vegetable garden make holes 2-3 cm deep at a distance of 20-30 cm from each other. Place the beans, and sprinkle them with soil and water. The crop will sprout in two months or later.

Cauliflower

If you plant such a cabbage in June, you will already harvest the first crop in July-August. In order to start the planting process, you need to dig holes 1-2 cm deep at a distance of 25 cm from each other. In each hole put the seeds and cover them with the earth. After a while, remove the weak sprouts, and water the rest, not allowing the soil to dry out.

Carrots

Experienced gardeners say that the best time to plant carrots is in June – this is when pest activity decreases dramatically. Prepare the seeds by soaking them in hot water for a day and then drying them. Plant the seeds in the wells, keeping a distance of 5-10 cm from each other. As time passes, watch the quality of the crop and feel free to thin it out. Water the seedlings depending on the temperature outside – more often on hot days than on cool days.
