If you want to lose weight, you have to regularly burn more calories than you take in over a longer period of time. Low-fat foods don’t necessarily help, as long as the missing fat is replaced with ingredients that contain as many or even more calories. Because if other energy-supplying nutrients, such as carbohydrates or proteins – for example sugar, corn flour or invert sugar syrup – are specified in the list of ingredients instead of fat, the calorie count of the fat-reduced product will rarely be lower. When it comes to losing weight, the foods that help best are those that contain few calories but lots of vital substances and fill you up for a long time.

Instead, the term “low-fat foods” can lead to the fallacy that they can be safely consumed in large quantities without making you fat. In order to lose weight, make sure you eat a balanced diet with lots of vegetables and fruit, fish, cereals, dairy products, and little meat. Find a good balance between sport and exercise as well as regular time out for relaxation. Then a hearty, greasy meal in between won’t do any harm.

You also need fat to absorb and transport the fat-soluble vitamins. Valuable, vital fatty acids, e.g. from nuts, vegetable oils, or fish, are necessary for the heart and brain to function optimally.
