Cut Hokkaido pumpkin: It’s easy with this trick
Cutting a pumpkin can be quite tedious. You will make your work easier if you cook it briefly. You need a pot of the right size for this.
- Wash the Hokkaido thoroughly first. Although the skin is easy to remove, you don’t have to peel a Hokkaido; you can eat the squash with the skin on.
- Put the washed Hokkaido in the pot and fill it up with hot water. The pumpkin must be covered with water.
- Cook the Hokkaido on the stovetop for about 10 minutes, then remove it from the water. Proceed carefully to avoid burning yourself.
- Let the Hokkaido cool down a bit. The pre-cooked pumpkin can then be easily cut.
Oven or microwave as an alternative
If you don’t have a big enough pot, you can also prepare the Hokkaido in the oven for easier cutting.
- Place the squash on the baking sheet and preheat the oven to 150 degrees.
- After 20 to 30 minutes, remove the squash from the oven and let it cool before slicing.
- If you have a large enough microwave, it goes even faster. Place the squash inside and set the microwave to 700 watts.
- After three to four minutes, the Hokkaido will be soft enough to easily cut into pieces, for example, if you want to freeze the squash.
