Stay away from whole milk, cream, and butter – fatty can cause diabetes! This is what people thought until recently and recommended the consumption of low-fat products. A Swedish study now refutes this theory: The researchers were able to prove that the consumption of high-fat dairy products prevents the development of type 2 diabetes. Drinking milk for diabetes or to prevent it is actually positive.
Milk in diabetes: Large-scale study
To do this, they accompanied around 27,000 subjects between the ages of 45 and 74 over a period of 14 years. The result of the study: Consuming eight servings of whole milk products daily reduces the risk of diabetes by 23 percent. A portion is 200 milligrams of milk or yogurt, 20 grams of cheese, 25 grams of cream, or seven grams of butter.
The scientists were unable to find any connection between the consumption of low-fat dairy products and the development of diabetes.
Protective effect of milk fat
But how is this phenomenon explained? Scientists suspect that milk fat increases the cells’ sensitivity to insulin. If this drops, the blood sugar level rises permanently – diabetes develops. So milk can have a protective effect on diabetes.
