Here’s how to freeze falafel

When freezing falafel, you have the choice between raw dough or pre-fried balls.

  • With the raw dough, the finished falafel tastes a little more intense at the end. That’s because you put it in the deep freeze right after processing, along with the herbs.
  • However, the fried balls have the advantage that you really only have to lightly bake them in the oven.
  • We recommend that you use the air recirculation function for this. This makes the falafel nice and crispy, but by no means dry.
  • Once frozen, the balls will keep in the freezer for a maximum of 6 months. After that, they are still edible but taste very bland.
  • A long stay in the freezer is also not good for falafel that has already been fried. Because they fall apart much faster afterward and you may not be able to prepare them as well.

Thaw the falafel again

When defrosting falafel, there are also a few things to keep in mind.

  • Take the falafel out of the freezer a day before you plan to eat it and place it in the refrigerator.
  • This way the balls can thaw slowly and the taste is better.
