Make Barbecue Sauces Yourself – That’s How it Works

It doesn’t always have to be a finished product for grilling. You can easily make delicious barbecue sauces yourself. Here we show you three great recipes for every taste.

Spicy Chili Tomato BBQ Sauce Recipe

  • You will need 1 half a red pepper, 6 beefsteak tomatoes, 3 red chili peppers, 1 red onion, 1 tsp mixed herbs, 1 tsp curry or paprika powder, and 2 tbsp tomato paste, and 100 ml light beer.
  • Peel the onions and garlic and then chop everything finely. Put some fat in a saucepan and sauté until translucent but not colored.
  • Meanwhile, wash the peppers, chili peppers, and tomatoes thoroughly.
  • Remove the seeds from the peppers and chilies and cut the ingredients, including the tomatoes, into the smallest possible pieces.
  • Now put the vegetables in the pan and add the tomato paste, the spices, and the herbs.
  • Let the ingredients simmer over low heat until thickened. Don’t stir too often so it thickens faster. But be careful not to burn the salsa.
  • Finally, add the beer and leave the sauce on the stove for another 10 to 15 minutes, until it reaches your desired consistency.

Make honey-mustard barbecue sauce yourself without cooking

  • For this quick recipe, you need 2 tablespoons, honey, 8 tablespoons medium hot mustard, 4 tablespoons canola oil, 6 tablespoons diced pickles, 4 tablespoons diced onion, 2 tablespoons diced peppers (any color), 2 tablespoons corn, and salt and pepper to taste.
  • Mix oil, honey, and mustard together.
  • Then add the diced ingredients and the corn.
  • Season the sauce with pepper and salt.
  • If you like it a little finer, you can also use a hand blender to puree the sauce until it is creamy.

Smokey barbecue sauce recipe

  • You will need 500 grams of peeled tomatoes, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, 3 cloves of garlic, 1 onion, 6 tablespoons of brown sugar, 6 tablespoons of honey, 100 ml of apple cider vinegar, zest of half an organic lemon, smoked paprika powder and salt and pepper to taste. You can also add chili flakes if you like.
  • Peel the garlic and onions. Chop everything finely and sauté the ingredients in a pan with oil until translucent.
  • Grate the lemon zest and add it to the pan with honey, sugar, and tomato paste.
  • Deglaze the mass with 50 ml of apple cider vinegar and add the spices to your taste.
  • Then add the tomatoes and let everything simmer on a low flame for 20 minutes. Stir from time to time so that nothing burns.
  • Now add another 50 ml of apple cider vinegar and 250 ml of water.
  • The sauce should be pretty thick. To do this, puree all the ingredients and continue cooking until the sauce has thickened.

Preserve homemade barbecue sauces

  • Pour the hot sauce into sterilized screw-top jars. It will keep in the fridge for at least three weeks.
  • You can also freeze the cooled sauce in the jars. Here, however, you should fill the jars no more than halfway. You can keep the sauce frozen for about 4 months.
  • To create a vacuum, turn jars upside down for a few minutes after filling.
