Make Fries Yourself – That’s How it Works

This is how easy it is to make your own fries

French fries are made from potatoes, so you can practically make them yourself at home. We’ll show you step by step how to do it.

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees circulating air, with top and bottom heat to 220 degrees. Note, however, that the homemade fries are significantly better and crispier if they are in convection ovens.
  2. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  3. Take the desired amount of potatoes and peel them carefully. The best way to do this is with a vegetable peeler. Tip: The fries work best with large potatoes.
  4. Either use a fries cutter or cut the fries yourself into the desired shape. Halve the potatoes and cut the halves into strips of equal length. Tip: just use an apple slicer if you want thick potato sticks. Finally, halve only the middle part, which is used for coring with the apple slicer.
  5. Lay the potato strips out on the tray and make sure that they do not lie on top of each other. The finer you cut the potatoes, the sooner they are ready.
  6. Then pour one to two teaspoons of oil over the potatoes, such as olive oil. Using the teaspoon, stir the potatoes again, making sure the oil has been evenly distributed to all the fries.
  7. Now put the fries in the middle of the oven for 30 to 45 minutes. This varies depending on the amount and thickness of the fries.

Homemade fries: what to watch out for?

In the meantime, check whether the homemade fries are already done and try one if you can. When they turn slightly brown, they’re done baking. If there are too many fries, you should either make them one after the other or on two trays or turn the potato strips.

  • Then it’s time for the seasoning. Here you can use spices as you wish. For example, opt for salt, paprika powder, or a ready-made French fries spicer.
  • Instead of in the oven, you can also put the potato strips in the deep fryer and deep-fry them there. In this test, you will read which is the best hot air fryer.
