Make Nutella Yourself: How to Make Your Own Spread

Ingredients and utensils: Make Nutella yourself

Only a few ingredients are required if you want to make Nutella yourself. However, you have to pay attention to powerful devices, especially when it comes to utensils so that the homemade spread is a success.

  • 150 grams of hazelnuts
  • 100 g milk chocolate
  • 60 g powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp canola oil
  • bowl
  • Pot
  • Pan
  • powerful chopper/blender for nuts

Step by step: This is how you easily make Nutella yourself

If you want to make Nutella yourself, you need one thing above all: a lot of patience. Because although the steps are easy, the process takes a little time. We’ll show you how to make homemade Nutella.

  1. Put the hazelnuts in a pan and toast them fat-free over medium heat. To prevent them from getting too dark, you should stir the hazelnuts regularly with a spatula or spoon.
  2. Melt the chocolate in a water bath. To do this, fill a pot with water and put it in a smaller pot or bowl containing the chocolate. Stir the slowly melting chocolate as well.
  3. Allow the hazelnuts to cool a little, then take a handful of hazelnuts to grate between your hands. This causes the skin to peel off. You don’t have to remove them completely, but remove the skin from the hazelnuts as best you can. Tip: You can also buy shelled hazelnuts to skip this step. However, these still need to be roasted for a short time.
  4. Now crush the hazelnuts with your blender or chopper. You have to make sure that the hazelnuts are crushed for a particularly long time so that a really creamy, slightly liquid mass is created. It takes some time to get to this point. Don’t stop sooner or your Nutella won’t turn out right.
  5. Now add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder and vanilla extract. Add the rapeseed oil and stir in the melted chocolate.
  6. Mix the whole thing together with the mixer. Mix the ingredients with the mixer until a creamy Nutella mass is formed. This step also takes some time and requires patience. After that, your homemade Nutella is ready and can already be eaten.

How long does homemade Nutella keep?

  • When you’re done, you can pour the chocolate mixture into screw-top jars. It is best if you keep them in the fridge afterward.
  • The homemade Nutella can be kept for about 1-2 weeks if it is stored in a cool place.
