Instructions: Make your own rose water

The self-made rose water is primarily suitable for cosmetic purposes. If you also want to use rose water for cooking, you should rather help yourself in the supermarket. Bitter substances are often produced, which have a negative effect on taste.

  • For one liter of rose water, you need 150 grams of rose petals. If you use less water, you will need fewer leaves accordingly.
  • The unwanted bitter substances are mainly in the white bases of the flowers. If necessary, cut off these spots with a knife.
  • Boil one liter of water and pour the boiling water over just 50 grams of the rose petals. Let the mixture rest for an hour.
  • Strain out the rose petals and bring the water to a boil again. Now pour it again over 50 grams of fresh rose petals.
  • The mixture now only has to stand for 10 minutes. Repeat this step with the last 50 grams of the rose petals as well.
  • Let the homemade rose water cool down and then fill it into a bottle. In the best case, choose a bottle with dark glass or opaque plastic.

Alternative: make rose water with rose oil

  • Besides making rose petals, you can also make rose water with rose oil. A small amount of five drops is sufficient for this.
  • You will need a liter of distilled water for this. You can get sterile water in the supermarket or drugstore. Caution: Distilled water must not be drunk.
  • Heat the water to 40 degrees Celsius and add the rose oil. Pour the mixture into a dark glass or bottle and shake well.
  • Leave the rose water in a place protected from light overnight. Shake it again and finally filter it with a coffee filter.
