Make Soy Milk Yourself: It’s So Easy

Lactose-free and vegan: There is a lot to be said for soy milk. Making soy milk yourself is not complicated at all. The advantage of soy milk from your own preparation: It is guaranteed to contain no additives!

Making soy milk in your own kitchen is easy. All you need is soybeans, water and a few kitchen utensils.

Make soy milk yourself – the ingredients

  • 100 grams of dried and peeled soybeans
  • large bowl (beans will increase in volume as they soak!)
  • 1 liter of water
  • hand mixer
  • colander and cotton cloth

Make your own soy milk

  1. Soak soybeans overnight. They double in volume as they soak.
  2. Pour off the soaking water and rinse the beans with clean water.
  3. Add the beans to the blender with a liter of fresh water.
  4. Puree the soybeans on the highest level and then sieve them through a cotton cloth.
  5. Then gently heat the milk and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring frequently. Skim off the foam with a small sieve.
  6. If you like, you can sweeten the finished soy milk with sugar, honey or agave syrup.

Tips for homemade soy milk

  • Store the soy milk in clean, tightly capped bottles in the refrigerator.
  • The drink will keep for a week in the fridge.
  • You can also use the soy milk for homemade tofu.
  • You can process the leftover beans (okara) into delicious vegan burgers and patties.
