Lactose-free and vegan: There is a lot to be said for soy milk. Making soy milk yourself is not complicated at all. The advantage of soy milk from your own preparation: It is guaranteed to contain no additives!
Making soy milk in your own kitchen is easy. All you need is soybeans, water and a few kitchen utensils.
Make soy milk yourself – the ingredients
- 100 grams of dried and peeled soybeans
- large bowl (beans will increase in volume as they soak!)
- 1 liter of water
- hand mixer
- colander and cotton cloth
Make your own soy milk
- Soak soybeans overnight. They double in volume as they soak.
- Pour off the soaking water and rinse the beans with clean water.
- Add the beans to the blender with a liter of fresh water.
- Puree the soybeans on the highest level and then sieve them through a cotton cloth.
- Then gently heat the milk and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring frequently. Skim off the foam with a small sieve.
- If you like, you can sweeten the finished soy milk with sugar, honey or agave syrup.
Tips for homemade soy milk
- Store the soy milk in clean, tightly capped bottles in the refrigerator.
- The drink will keep for a week in the fridge.
- You can also use the soy milk for homemade tofu.
- You can process the leftover beans (okara) into delicious vegan burgers and patties.
