People Have Been Eating Nuts Wrong for Years: How to Get the Most Out of Them

It’s no secret that nuts are very tasty and nutritious. They are also a part of the diet.

The nutritional value of this product increases significantly when consumed properly. Glavred figured out why dry fruits need soaking.

Why soak nuts before eating?

To increase nutritional value and improve digestion. Soaked nuts and seeds improve the body’s ability to absorb nutrients. Nuts and seeds are rich in nutrients and contain nutrient inhibitors that protect and ensure the survival of these nutrients.

By soaking nuts, you minimize or eliminate the nutrient inhibitors and other toxic substances as they are absorbed into the water. Without inhibitors and toxic substances, the nutrients in nuts and seeds are more easily absorbed. In addition, they are more easily absorbed by the body and promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the colon.

Easier preparation. By soaking nuts and seeds, they become softer and easier to mix. They also become easier to use when creating dairy substitutes that contain good, healthy fats. For example, you can make Alfredo sauce by replacing parmesan cheese with soaked cashew nuts.

Improved flavor and texture. By soaking nuts and seeds, you change (improve) their flavor. Soaked nuts and seeds are hydrated, so their flavor is slightly more buttery and creamy. As the nuts absorb more and more water, they become plumper and their texture softens (hint: it’s always a good idea to soak nuts and seeds in a larger container so they have enough room to expand).

How do you soak nuts?

Basically, people eat nuts without additional additives, raw. But the main thing is to soak the kernels.

For soaking, you will need the following ingredients:

  • nuts
  • salt
  • water.

The ratio of water to nuts is 3: 1. Time is of great importance for the process: some varieties need 4 hours, while others require long processing: walnuts – 4 hours; cashews – 6 hours; peanuts, and hazelnuts – 8 hours; almonds – 12 hours.

Nuts should not be kept in the same water for more than 8 hours, it is advisable to change it, and at the end, it is imperative to rinse the kernels under running water and dry them on parchment in an oven at 50 ° C for no more than 15 minutes.
