Pre-Cook Lasagne Sheets: When This Step Makes Sense

Pre-cook lasagne sheets: Then it is necessary

Pre-cooking lasagne sheets are necessary if you want to prepare your dish with less sauce than the recipe calls for. The advantage is that it is faster. It is sufficient if you pre-cook the lasagne sheets for about three to five minutes. To do this, you should consider the following guide:

  • To cook the slabs you will need a saucepan, wooden spoon, chopsticks or wooden skewers, a sieve, and parchment paper. Addition, in addition to the lasagne sheets, salt, and water.
  • Fill the pot with water and add a pinch of salt. Bring the water to a boil.
  • Now place the lasagne sheets in the water. How much water and how many plates are needed depends on the recipe. As a rule of thumb, you can remember that you should calculate one liter of water for 5 sheets of lasagne.
  • Be sure to put the plates in carefully and one at a time. Otherwise, the hot water may splash. Once you put them in, the water will stop boiling for a moment.
  • Now you should adjust the temperature so that the water does not boil over. A lid can enhance this effect because it seals in the steam.
  • Now you should gently stir the plates for about two minutes. This will ensure they don’t stick to each other or to the floor, which can happen very quickly. So don’t take your eyes off the pot. Stay at the stove.
  • After the time is up, you can tell them apart with the chopsticks or the wooden skewers.
  • You can use tongs to remove the plates and taste whether they are done. A bit of firmness is okay, this is called the firm to the bite or al dente.
  • As a final step, let the plates cool and place them on the parchment paper. Oiled baking paper is even better.

Prepare lasagna without pre-cooking

Lasagna is a popular meal for many people – especially if you prepare it yourself, for example, a lasagna made from Swiss chard. For some recipes, it is necessary to cook lasagna sheets. As a rule, however, the recipes work without pre-cooking.

  • If the lasagne sheets are still too firm after preparation, you should prepare the lasagne next time with a little less heat but with a longer baking time in the oven.
  • It is also possible that there is not enough liquid in the lasagne sheet. You can also bypass this. When preparing, make sure you add enough liquid to the lasagna in the form of sauce.
