Scientists Explain How Hypertension and Pistachios are Related

Experts conducted a study involving two groups of subjects suffering from a predisposition to high blood pressure and diabetes. Scientists from the American Heart Association reported that pistachios can help fight hypertension.

Experts conducted a study involving two groups of subjects suffering from both high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.

The first group of subjects ate foods low in fat and high in carbohydrates, and the researchers included pistachios in the diet of the second group.

After four weeks of observation, the experts concluded that pistachios significantly reduced total peripheral resistance. In addition, cardiac output increased and some indicators of heart rate variability improved.

“Systolic ambulatory blood pressure decreased significantly after the pistachio diet, with the greatest decrease during sleep,” the researchers emphasized.
