Store And Consume Canned Food Correctly

Store preserves correctly: whether herring, beans, or corned beef. You should follow a few tips for correct storage and careful consumption.

Store jars and cans properly

Canned food has enjoyed great popularity since its invention in the 19th century. Vegetables such as corn or peas, fruit such as cake peaches or berries, as well as meat or fish can be preserved for longer.

By heating and hermetically sealing the food in a can, perishable food can be kept almost indefinitely if it is stored below 40 degrees Celsius: be it herring, beans, or corned beef. However, a few tips for correct storage and careful consumption should be observed.

Where and how to store canned goods?

It is best to store canned food in the pantry or in the cellar. A dark, cool room is ideal for glass containers in particular, as light and heat can affect the quality of the food. Vitamins, in particular, feel comfortable in complete darkness. Storage in the kitchen should only be undertaken if there is a lack of space, as the room temperature in the kitchen increases when cooking or baking.

Canned goods have a very long shelf life, but not indefinitely. If you have larger supplies, you should always put new canned goods at the back and older ones at the front so you don’t waste food.

What to do with the leftovers? decanting!

If you don’t use the entire contents of a can, don’t just put the can back in the fridge. Put the leftovers in a plastic or glass container and refrigerate. In this way, the food can be stored for another two to three days, during which time it should be eaten.

On the one hand, open cans are not hermetically sealed, so the leftovers in them spoil faster. On the other hand, the opened, “ventilated” can react with the leftover food. Especially with acidic contents, such as tomatoes or acidic types of fruit, the taste and quality can be influenced by storage in the open can.

Corrupt Recognition

Keep your hands-off cans with a convex lid or base, as well as unopened jars whose lids can be dented. Bloated cans indicate dangerous germs that have already released gases into the contents of the can. Glasses that have drawn air can also be an indication of spoiled goods.

If a can is dented, for example by falling, you should check the contents before using it. Minor damage to the coating can affect the taste or quality of the food. Here is a smell and taste test. If in doubt, discard the contents of the can.
