The perfect sweet nut rings with misithra cheese and orange syrup recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.
For the dough
- 130 g Wheat flour type 1050
- 6 tbsp Orange juice
- 30 g Sugar, white
- 2 tbsp Orange syrup
- 1 pinch Salt
- 1 tbsp Baking powder
Also:
- 1 tbsp Flour for the work surface
- 1 tbsp Margarine for the baking tray
For the syrup:
- 100 g Orange juice
- 50 g Sugar, white
- 3 cm Cinnamon stick
- 1 Clove
For the filling:
- 100 g Cream cheese (Misithra, see note)
- 3 tbsp Honey, bright
- 1 Egg, size M
- 60 g Walnuts, coarsely grated
- 60 g Flaked almonds
To garnish:
- 60 g Orange syrup
- 60 g Sesame, white
- 60 g Flowers and leaves
- Put all the ingredients for the syrup in a small saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove the cinnamon and clove and have the syrup ready.
- Mix all the ingredients for the dough and knead into a smooth dough. Wrap in foil and let ripen in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
- Grease a sufficiently large baking sheet. Preheat the oven to 180 ° C top / bottom heat.
- Beat the egg, separate the yolk and egg white. Use the egg white elsewhere. Mix the misithra with the egg yolk, honey and tapioca flour until homogeneous. Keep the finished filling in the refrigerator until the dough strips are ready.
- Divide the dough into 2 portions. Roll out each portion into a plate approx. 30 cm long and 2 mm thick on a floured work surface. Cut the plates lengthways into strips 2 cm wide. Spread the misithra on top and sprinkle with the flaked almonds and the walnut flakes. Roll the strips from bottom to top and place the curls flat in the baking sheet. Garnish the rings with half a walnut. Bake in the oven at 180 degrees until golden brown. Dab with some orange syrup and sprinkle the white sesame seeds on top. Arrange on a platter, garnish and serve warm.

- If you can’t get misithra cream cheese, you can alternatively make do with a mixture of 30% feta cheese and 70% quark, which is mixed homogeneously.
