What Does The Body Need Vitamin C For?

No vitamin is as important for the body and involved in so many different metabolic processes as vitamin C. Read here about the functions this all-around genius performs in the body.

Vitamin C protects against heart failure

People whose doctor has diagnosed heart failure should eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. A clinical study involving over 200 patients has now found that vitamin C deficiency can increase the risk of heart failure leading to death by up to 50 percent. But even if you have a healthy heart, you should serve up the delicious vitamin C bombs every day: such a low-fat, vitamin-rich diet also has a heart-protective, preventive effect on you.

Vitamin C can prevent arthritis

Diet seems to play a greater role in the development of rheumatic diseases than previously assumed: it has now been found that people who eat little fruit and vegetables rich in vitamin C have a higher risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis. This is the result of a study by British researchers from Cambridge on the eating habits of 25,000 people.

Previous studies had already shown that smoking and blood transfusions are two strong risk factors for developing rheumatoid arthritis. The finding that a lack of vitamin C can also increase the risk is relatively new.

Lack of vitamin C causes nervousness

A lack of vitamin C prevents beautiful dreams. Ensure a balanced diet with vegetables (brussels sprouts, broccoli) and fruit (lemons, oranges). Sour also wakes you up. It massively stimulates the circulatory system. Don’t eat apples, kiwis, or pickles in the evening. Magnesium deficiency also robs you of sleep. A tried and tested antidote: eat 50 g of oatmeal and a high dose of magnesium in the evening.
