Borettian onions can be found in every Italian supermarket. They are the size of our pearl onions; however, are not inserted. The inherent taste is sweet. I tried this recipe for a long time. I lightly roast the onions with oil in the pan (carefully). When the so-called roasted aromas can be seen, I add the sugar, season with salt and fresh pepper and add the balsamic vinegar. Now the onions, along with all the other ingredients, should simmer for about 40 minutes. Swing the pan gently every now and then. Now store the finished onions in a clip-on glass in the refrigerator. They can be served cold with cheese or warmed up with meat dishes.
