Carnival pastries, makes about 20 pieces.
Mix the flour, sugar, eggs, butter, salt, and liquid (or flavored water, depending on your taste) by hand (it will stick to your fingers). Knead into a smooth dough. Form a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 2 hours. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 5 mm and cut out rectangles (approx. 4 x 10 cm). Use a knife to make a 5 cm long cut in the middle and push one end of the dough through. Heat enough fat or oil in a saucepan (approx. 165°C) so that the pieces can float. Add the pieces one at a time and fry for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and let drain on kitchen paper. Then sprinkle both sides with powdered sugar.
