Red Cabbage – Easy
The perfect red cabbage – easy recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.
- 1 head Fresh red cabbage
- 3 tablespoon Extra virgin olive oil
- 2 size Onions in strips
- 5 tablespoon Vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 half a teaspoon Black pepper
- 2 Bay leaves
- 13 bruised Juniper berries
- 3 Cloves
- There are people who do not like the “apple-red cabbage” that much. I’m one of them – and here is my “simple” red cabbage recipe, which is one of my standards:
- Divide the cabbage into four parts and cut strips from these parts, not too fine, until only the hard stalk is left. Also cut the onions into strips.
- Heat the oil in a sufficiently large saucepan and gently sauté the onions, add the cabbage strips and sauté briefly. Now immediately fold in the vinegar so that the beautiful color is retained. Mix the sugar, salt, pepper and the spices into the vegetables and put a lid on. Cook in their own juice over a mild heat for 50 to 60 minutes. Season again with pepper before serving.
- These red cabbage vegetables go particularly well with hearty home-style dishes. I served it with roast duck legs today. It is also very suitable for freezing, which I find very practical, because a whole head of red cabbage is really too much for just two people!
