Vegetarian brown sauce with red cabbage

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 500 ml broth
  • 4 cookies (hamburger brown cakes)
  • 1 handful of raisins
  • 2 tbsp currants
  • 1 stalk(s) cinnamon
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • Salt
  • Sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Wrap the biscuits in a kitchen towel and crumble them. Heat the butter in a saucepan and stir in the flour. Slowly add the broth. Stir in the biscuit crumbs and add the remaining ingredients. Let the sauce simmer for a while. Purée some or all of the sauce, if desired, and season to taste. It goes best with red cabbage and dumplings or potatoes.
