Boiling delay – mess in the microwave
- If you heat a liquid in the microwave – for example in a cup or a glass – it can happen that it suddenly erupts in an explosive manner.
- The phenomenon is called delayed boiling. The liquid is heated above its boiling point. A growing gas bubble is formed.
- If there is a disturbance, for example, a slight vibration, the bubble bursts, and the liquid shoot out of the container.
- You can prevent delayed boiling by placing a glass rod in the liquid. Many microwave manufacturers supply these chopsticks.
- The glass rod prevents the formation of a single large gas bubble.
