Logi method – what’s behind it
The diet was developed by Munich nutritionist Nicolai Worm in 2003. Logi stands for “Low Glycemic and Insulinemic Diet”.
- The Logi method is used, among other things, to reduce weight if you are overweight. However, it is not a diet, but a permanent change in diet.
- The diet is primarily intended for people who suffer from insulin resistance and are therefore at risk of developing diabetes.
- Insulin is made in the pancreas. The hormone enables the body’s cells to absorb sugar from the blood. Insulin resistance means that the cells no longer respond as well to insulin.
- As a result of insulin resistance, the pancreas produces more and more insulin. The blood sugar gets mixed up and types 2 diabetes develops.
- The basis of the Logi method is the classification of foods according to their glycemic index. Depending on how much carbohydrates in food affect blood sugar, the food has a higher or lower glycemic index.
This is how the Logi method works
With the Logi method, you can basically eat anything. However, some foods should be on your menu more often than others.
- The LOGI method divides food into a four-level pyramid. The bottom tier contains foods with a low glycemic index that you can eat as often and as much as you like.
- This includes all vegetables as well as salads and mushrooms. You can also enjoy unlimited amounts of low-sugar fruit. So there are no restrictions on apples and pears. However, pineapples or bananas should only be enjoyed in moderation.
- The second level of the logi pyramid contains protein-rich foods such as meat and fish, but also all dairy products and legumes.
- You should eat even less of the foods that make up the third level of the pyramid. Here you will find foods with a higher glycemic index such as wholemeal or mixed bread. Side dishes such as pasta, rice, and potatoes also have a high glycemic index.
- The top of the pyramid contains foods that have a very strong effect on blood sugar. In addition to sweets containing sugar, such as sweets, all white flour products can also be found here.
