After a long day in the office, you reach behind you to get a folder from the closet, and then it happens: a spasmodic pain shoots up in your completely tense shoulder and neck muscles. This includes warmth: a cherry pit or spelled pillow or a heat patch promote blood circulation and gently loosen the areas. To relieve tension in the entire back or in the legs, a relaxation bath is the first choice as a home remedy. Gentle stretching exercises can provide additional relief. The cat and cow exercise from yoga often helps with back tension. In doing so, you alternately do a rounded back and a back bend on all fours or while standing supported on the back of a chair – this mobilizes and stretches.
Massage as a home remedy to relieve muscle tension in the back
Another home remedy to relax muscles is massage. There are various techniques, from kneading to gripping and pressure to tapping massage. Sometimes very painful, but also effective for stubborn tension: the trigger point massage. Intensive pressure is applied to the pain points, for example with a fascia roller or a fascia or tennis ball. Place them under the neck or back and rollover. The muscle tone is reduced immediately, which is felt to be very relieving. If you want to be even more precise, you can also use a wine cork with the tip rounded off with a knife. Due to the smaller surface, pressure can be applied to deeper regions with such a tool. For example, to relieve muscle tension in the thighs – which, by the way, often cause knee pain.
