Taking vitamin D increases testosterone levels
In 2011, an article by the Medical University of Graz was published in the journal Hormone and Metabolic Research). It read:
The male reproductive organs are among the target tissues of vitamin D. Therefore, there are already data showing a relationship between vitamin D levels and testosterone levels in men.”
The testosterone levels of 54 healthy but overweight men (between 20 and 49 years of age) were determined. The value was on the lower limit, so it was very low. Her vitamin D levels were also very low (around 20 ng/ml), so low it was a deficiency.
The men should now take either 3,000 IU of vitamin D or a placebo for one year. Subsequently, the vitamin D value in the vitamin D group increased by an average of 20 ng/ml, while it remained low in the placebo group.
The testosterone level was also significantly increased in the vitamin D group, but no positive change was found in the placebo group.
The higher the vitamin D level, the higher the testosterone level
Another study on vitamin D and testosterone levels – it dates from 2015 – showed that testosterone levels correlate with vitamin D levels. The higher and healthier the vitamin D level, the higher and healthier the test subjects’ testosterone levels. In this study, the participants were older, between 65 and 89 years old.
Of course, vitamin D deficiency is not the only cause of low testosterone, so taking vitamin D should be only ONE component of a holistic testosterone-boosting regimen.
Measure testosterone levels
Before taking measures to increase the testosterone level, it should first be checked whether the existing symptoms are actually the result of too low a testosterone level and whether there are other possible causes. The doctor can help with testosterone determination in the blood.
