How to Make Delicious Condensed Milk: Recipes and Tips for Thickening

Condensed milk is a universal and very tasty treat. Residents of post-Soviet countries love condensed milk and add it to various desserts. Store-bought condensed milk raises many doubts about its composition, and its taste is not very natural. We suggest making delicious condensed milk at home and sharing our advice – on how to thicken the dessert if it turns out too liquid.

Homemade condensed milk

For homemade condensed milk, choose fresh, fat-free milk without additives, preferably rustic. You will also need a saucepan with a thick bottom.

  • Milk with a fat content of 2% or more – 5 cups.
  • The sugar – 2.5 cups.

Pour the milk into a saucepan and put it on minimum heat. When the milk heats a little, pour in the sugar and stir until dissolved. Stirring regularly, boil the condensed milk for 2-3 hours, until the milk thickens. Leave the condensed milk in the refrigerator for 5-8 hours and pour it into sterilized jars, if you plan to store it for a long time.

How to make condensed milk in 15 minutes

  • Milk – 200 ml.
  • Powdered sugar – 200 gr
  • Butter 82% – 1 tsp.
  • Vanillin to taste.

In a tall stainless steel saucepan, lightly heat the milk. Add a piece of butter and vanillin. Stir in the powdered sugar. Stir all ingredients and turn on minimum heat. Stirring constantly, bringing the mixture to a boil.

Once it boils, increase the heat to medium. Constantly stir milk and cook for about 10-15 minutes. During this time it should boil away. As soon as the milk begins to thicken, immediately turn off the heat. Cool condensed milk to room temperature, and then put it in the refrigerator for several hours. Store in jars with the lid tightly closed.

Cooked condensed milk

  • Milk – 1 l.
  • Sugar – 250 gr.
  • Soda – 1 tsp.
  • Vanilla to taste.

In a saucepan with high sides pour milk with other ingredients. Put on medium heat, and stir the milk until the sugar dissolves. Once the milk boils, it may run away, so you need to stir it. Boil the milk for 20 minutes on medium heat, then another hour on low heat. Stir the milk regularly.

After the specified time has elapsed, turn off the heat. Continue to stir the condensed milk for another 5 minutes after turning it off. Cool to room temperature and place in the refrigerator for a few hours.

How to Thicken Condensed Fats

There are several ways to thicken white condensed milk.

  • Put the condensed milk in the refrigerator for 24 hours.
  • Put it on the fire, add a few tablespoons of powdered milk, and boil it for 15 minutes after boiling.
  • Add a couple of spoonfuls of powdered sugar and whisk with a blender.

Cooked condensed milk can turn out liquid if it is not cooked enough or has a non-natural composition. How do I thicken condensed milk at home?

  • Add a couple of spoons of butter to the condensed milk, beat with a blender, and put it in the fridge for a few hours.
  • If the recipe allows, you can add chopped nuts or cookie crumbs to the condensed milk.
  • As a last resort, you can add a couple of spoonfuls of flour to the condensed milk. Then boil the candy for 15 minutes in a water bath. Keep in mind that such condensed milk will have an extraneous flavor.
