Broccoli Sicilian style

Remove the leaves and stems from the broccoli and chop it. Simmer it with the chopped onion and garlic clove in a little water over low heat, adding a pinch of salt and pepper. Halfway through the cooking time, add the two glasses of red wine and continue simmering. Once the broccoli is almost tender, add the grated pecorino cheese and mix all ingredients well. Broccoli affogati (German: drowned broccoli) is a popular dish throughout Italy, originally from Sicily/Catania, and can be served as a cold starter or warm main course.
