Loaded fries with meatballs

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 2 onions
  • 1 garlic clove(s)
  • 400 g minced meat, mixed
  • ½ tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 egg(s)
  • 2 tsp sweet paprika powder
  • 1 tsp marjoram, dried
  • 3 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • salt and pepper
  • 3 tbsp sunflower oil for frying
  • 1 kg French fries
  • 100g Cheddar
  • 25 g butter
  • 25 g flour
  • 400 ml milk
  • 2 jalapeños
  • 3 spring onions
  • 1 tbsp parsley, chopped
  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 3 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

Working time approx. 45 minutes; Rest time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 35 minutes

Finely dice or chop the onions and garlic. Mix both with the minced meat, tomato paste, egg, paprika, marjoram, and breadcrumbs, and season with salt and pepper. Form the mixture into about 20 meatballs and chill for about 30 minutes. For the sauce: Coarsely grate the Cheddar cheese. Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in the flour. Pour in the milk while stirring. Let the sauce simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the Cheddar cheese. Season the sauce with salt and pepper and keep warm. For the salsa: Finely slice the jalapeños and spring onions. Mix the jalapeños, spring onions, and chopped parsley with the vinegar and olive oil. Heat the sunflower oil in a pan and fry the meatballs until crispy. Fry the French fries as directed, adding salt. Serve French fries with meatballs, cheese sauce, and salsa. One serving contains 1069 calories per serving.
