Asian braised tofu in sweet and spicy soy sauce

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 400 g natural tofu
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 150 ml water
  • 2 medium-sized garlic cloves
  • 80 g soy sauce, light
  • 2 tsp fish sauce
  • some Pul Biber
  • 2 tsp cane sugar
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp spring onions or chives, optional

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Cut the tofu into approximately 1 cm thick slices and pat dry thoroughly. Crush the garlic, mix with water, soy sauce, fish sauce, pul biber, cane sugar, and cornstarch. Heat oil in a non-stick pan and fry the tofu slices until golden brown. Deglaze with the stirred soy sauce and simmer over low heat for about 5-7 minutes. You may need to add a little more water. Serve on plates with rice and sprinkle with spring onions or chives.
