Avocado: This is How You Recognize a Ripe Fruit

Whether an avocado is ripe is not always easy to tell with the naked eye. In this article, we explain what you need to look out for when choosing a fruit.

Avocado: This feature has a ripe fruit

There are several characteristics that characterize a ripe avocado fruit. Externally, avocados tend to look very similar, making it difficult to tell the difference with the naked eye. We will show you what is important.

  • With a pressure test, you can quickly find out whether your avocado is ripe or unripe. If the skin can be dented slightly, it is a very ripe specimen. If it doesn’t yield at all and feels very hard, the avocado is unripe.
  • By looking under the stalk of the avocado, you can tell within seconds if the fruit is ripe. If the flesh is bright green, the fruit is perfectly ripe and can be eaten without further ado. If it is very light, the fruit is unripe. If the flesh is brown, the fruit is already overripe and there is a risk that it will already start to mold on the inside.
  • Don’t be fooled by the fruit’s appearance. Depending on the type of avocado, the color and texture can differ and do not necessarily indicate the degree of ripeness of the fruit.
  • If you want to get unripe avocados ripe faster, it’s worth taking a look at another article.

How to keep an avocado fresh longer

It often happens that you don’t need the whole avocado at once. Then it’s particularly annoying the next time you open the fridge and notice that your fruit is already brown and no longer fresh. We explain how you can prevent this.

  • Don’t throw away the pit of the avocado when you open the fruit, but put it with the fruit. It prevents the fruit from turning brown.
  • Also, wrap the avocado half in cling film before putting it in the fridge. This ensures that no air gets to the fruit and thus further promotes ripening.

In this state, the cut fruit can be kept for a maximum of three days and should therefore be used up quickly.
