Freezing Sushi: You Should Pay Attention to This

Freezing homemade sushi – that’s possible

Sushi is a good breeding ground for bacteria. Therefore, storing sushi is not easy if the food is not to be eaten immediately. If you have prepared your sushi yourself, you can freeze it and keep it in the freezer for a few weeks.

  • To do this, wrap each sushi piece tightly in cling film before freezing.
  • However, this is only possible if you use fresh fish for production. It must not have been previously deep-frozen and thus already thawed.
  • Tip: prepare sushi in advance, do not cut it, but freeze the whole roll at once, wrapped in cling film.
  • If you defrost sushi, you should do it as quickly as possible, i.e. in the microwave or at room temperature. Then you should enjoy the sushi as soon as possible.

Do not freeze sushi bought for the sake of health

With store-bought sushi, you don’t know what ingredients were used.

  • Store-bought sushi usually uses deep-frozen fish.
  • You must not refreeze fish once it has been thawed – and neither should sushi.
  • Only buy as much as you can eat. If there is anything left, dispose of it for the sake of your health.
