makes about 20 pieces

Make a yeast dough from the ingredients listed above and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour. Roll the dough into a log and cut it into 20 equal-sized pieces. Shape the pieces into round shapes and let it rise for another 30 minutes. Fry the doughnuts in hot oil until golden brown. After baking, coat them in sugar or dust with powdered sugar. Pipe the jam into the doughnuts using a piping bag with a perforated nozzle; a metal nozzle works best. The oil should be 175°C. For children, you can also cover the doughnuts with fondant and make Smartie faces for carnival time. A friend of mine has already done something like this: work a Toffifee into each piece of yeast dough before frying.
