Beetroot in orange sauce with fried layered cheese or tofu

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g beetroot
  • 300 ml orange juice
  • 25 g butter
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • some coriander, ground
  • 400 g layered cheese or tofu
  • 1 egg(s)
  • Flour
  • Salt
  • 100 g sesame seeds

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 50 minutes

Wearing gloves, peel the beets and cut into pieces. Melt the butter in a saucepan and let the sugar caramelize slightly. Then add the beets, toss to coat, and deglaze with the orange juice. Add the coriander and a little salt. Braise the beets for about 20 minutes until al dente. Add more salt if desired. Cut the cheese into 4 slices, pat dry, coat with flour, coat in egg, and coat well with sesame seeds. Fry gently in a pan in a little butter for about 3 minutes on each side. I always serve them with small boiled potatoes.
