  • 4 puff pastry pies
  • 500 g broccoli
  • 8 tbsp rice, or mashed potatoes or noodles, cooked

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Clean the broccoli, divide it into large florets, and blanch it in a little salted water for 8 minutes to retain its bite. Immediately rinse with cold water to retain its green color. Defrost the peas (microwave or stovetop). Briefly heat the rice, mashed potatoes, or pasta, and season with salt and pepper if desired. Fill the finished pies (or homemade ones made from puff pastry and baked in muffin tins) with the rice, mashed potatoes, or pasta, and sprinkle with cheese. Scatter a few peas on top and place a broccoli tree (which only the giraffes are allowed to eat) inside. Place the pies on a plate and arrange the remaining rice, etc., and peas around them. To eat, place the plates at the children’s eye level or higher, and use a spoon or fork to make their way to the basket. The basket is then held in place, and only the biggest and cleverest giraffes can take a bite from the tree. You might even have to get a stool to eat it. The pie and its contents come last. Tip: Prepare enough “trees” to plant later. Our children (3 years old) have already eaten a whole broccoli this way – thankfully without a stomach ache!
