Instructions
Working time approx. 35 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes
from Grandma Helga’s cookbook
First, wash the cauliflower and divide it into florets. Peel and slice the carrots. Cook the cauliflower in lightly salted water. Add the carrots 10 minutes later and simmer for about 5 minutes. The carrots and cabbage should be firm to the bite. Reserve 1/4 l of the cooking water. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a pan and fry the minced meat until well browned. Add the diced onion and continue frying until nicely browned. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme. Remove the pan from the heat and season with paprika. Grease a baking dish with margarine. Add the cauliflower, carrots, and minced meat to the baking dish. Melt the butter in a saucepan and brown the ham cubes in it. Pour in the milk and cauliflower water. Then add the cheese wedges and stir until melted. Bring the sauce to a boil and thicken with the sauce mix until the desired consistency is achieved. Now pour the sauce over the vegetables and minced meat. Bake in a preheated oven (225°C) for about 25 minutes. Sprinkle the finished casserole with chopped parsley. Serve with potatoes. The recipe is versatile. It also tastes good with more or less cauliflower or carrots, with pre-cooked potatoes or broccoli, without minced meat, without ham in the sauce, with mushrooms, with Brussels sprouts, etc.
