Granita Slush Ice Cream

The perfect granita slush ice cream recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • Ice cubes or crushed ice
  • For fruit or cola syrup see my KB

Preface:

  1. Slush ice cream (sold as granita in Italy) is a semi-frozen “drinking ice cream”. It has a consistency like (sorry) “snow-slush” and is originally made from scraped water ice and fruit syrup or fruit pulp.
  2. But you can easily prepare and enjoy it in a flash – even without any machine or tedious freezing with constant stirring.
  3. Instead of scraping or shredding, you simply put a few ice cubes in a freezer bag and smash them – as with biscuits for a biscuit base – almost to dust. A few small pieces can be left behind. The number of cubes depends on the size of the glass into which the drink is then filled. If you find it too difficult to break the ice cubes, simply use crushed ice. If you have a mixer available, you can of course also use it. However, all variants have to be a little brisk because the ice melts very quickly. For several glasses, work in several, individual servings.
  4. Then first half fill the glass with the ice, pour a good dash of syrup over it and then pour in the rest of the ice up to the edge. Put a good shot of syrup over it, stir everything with a long-handled spoon, put in a straw and ……………….. enjoy.
  5. Slush ice cream is the fat-free version of pampering yourself with a delicious ice drink in summer ……….. It is, if you add a tiny dash of alcohol, a nice drink after work .. …… and super suitable for children without alcohol.
  6. You can easily make the syrup types to be used yourself, then you know what’s in it and they don’t taste like artificial flavors. (see my KB)
