Beef with Onions and Carrot Sticks

The perfect beef with onions and carrot sticks recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

Marinade:

  • 4 tbsp Light soy sauce
  • 4 tbsp Rice wine
  • 3 Garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp Food starch

Beef with onions and carrot sticks:

  • 1000 g Hip steak
  • 2 Large onions approx. 300 g
  • 300 g Carrots
  • 6 tbsp Peanut oil
  • 400 ml Beef broth (2 teaspoons instant)
  • 2 tbsp Rice wine
  • 2 tbsp Light soy sauce
  • 4 tbsp Hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0,5 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tsp Sambal oelek
  • 1 tbsp Food starch

Rice: See my recipe *)

  • 500 g Basmati rice
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1000 ml Water

Marinade:

  1. Peel the garlic cloves and dice them very finely. Mix a marinade of light soy sauce (4 tbsp), rice wine (4 tbsp), garlic cubes and cornstarch (1 tbsp) in a bowl.

Beef with onions and carrot sticks:

  1. Wash the beef, pat dry with kitchen paper, cut into strips and marinate with the marinade for approx. 2 hours. Heat the wok with 1 tablespoon of oil each, fry the meat strips vigorously in 4 portions and take them out of the wok again. Pour the remaining oil (2 tbsp) into the wok and fry the vegetables () in it for approx. 2 – 3 minutes / stir-fry. Add the meat again and pour over the beef broth (400 ml). Season with rice wine (2 tablespoons), light soy sauce (2 tablespoons), hoisin sauce (4 tablespoons), salt (1 teaspoon), pepper (½ teaspoon) and sambal oelek (1 teaspoon). Let everything simmer for about 5 minutes. Mix the cornstarch (1 tbsp) in a little cold water, stir into the wok and briefly bring to the boil until everything thickens a little.

Rice:

  1. Cook rice (500 g) according to the spring rice method (see my recipe: Cooking rice) in 1000 ml salted water (1 teaspoon) for about 20 minutes and allow to evaporate a little.

Serve:

  1. Serve the beef with onions and carrot sticks with rice.
