Power Failure in the Freezer – What Can I Freeze Again?

Spread the love

After a power outage of 14 hours, my freezer was still -7 degrees. I didn’t open the cabinet afterwards, but pressed the Super Frost button. Is the content still ok?

If only the top layer of the frozen food was thawed or not at all, you can freeze it all again – preferably with Super Frost, as you did. If you measured a temperature of minus 7 degrees, we assume that. To be on the safe side, you should not store raw meat, especially poultry and minced meat, or raw fish for too long and defrost and process it as soon as possible.

Food that does not need to be heated after defrosting can always be frozen a second time, even if it has been completely defrosted. This includes dishes that have already been cooked, as well as bread and pastries and raw fruit and vegetables. However, they should not have been stored at room temperature for too long, as undesirable germs may have multiplied by then.

Flavor, texture and appearance may change with repeated freezing.

Defrosted raw meat and fish can be prepared and then frozen again.
