Can you cook rice pudding in the microwave?
That’s fine. Put the desired amount of rice pudding together with the required amount of milk (usually four times the amount of rice) in a sufficiently large and microwave-safe dish. It is important that the vessel is not too small, otherwise, the rice will overflow. Put the whole thing covered (!) in the microwave for about seven minutes at 900 watts and let the rice pudding boil briefly. Then finish cooking it at 300 watts in about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Does it make sense to cook rice pudding in the microwave?
Not necessarily. This does not result in a time saving. If you prepare a classic such as rice pudding with cherries conventionally on the stove, you must first bring it to the boil and then let it swell for about 30 minutes over low heat. Only the risk that the rice pudding burns from below when cooking does not exist in the microwave.
Fancy rice pudding? It not only tastes good as a sweet main course, but also in the form of rice pudding cake or as a fruity-juicy quark rice pudding cake!
Rice pudding in the microwave: This is how you warm it up easily
Warming up rice pudding in the microwave, on the other hand, is as simple as it is sensible. Thanks to the microwave, you can, for example, pre-cook rice pudding in the evening and then have it hot on the table in no time at all. But it is just as possible to reheat it on the stove. If the rice pudding has dried out a little after storing it, simply stir in a little milk or water before reheating – no matter what method you use – to give it back its creamy consistency.
Pro tip: While some recipes require rice to be washed beforehand, the opposite is true for rice pudding and risotto! Excess starch comes off the rice grains when they are washed. But you want to get this with rice pudding, as it acts as an important binding agent for the creamy consistency. By the way, starch and protein, which are also contained in rice grains, are also the reason why foam forms on the water when rice is cooked.
