Kale: cooking time of the popular vegetable

If you plan to consume kale, you should allow enough time for cooking. Fresh kale is very firm and takes longer, kale in a jar and frozen is ready faster:

  1. First, you should blanch the kale for 15 to 20 minutes. To do this, fill a saucepan with water and bring it to a boil.
  2. Then put the fresh kale in it and let it cook at a high temperature.
  3. After that, you should let the water cool down. The kale must now simmer for another 1.5 to 2 hours.

Cooking time for green cabbage from the jar / can and frozen

  • For frozen kale (TK), you should estimate 45 to 70 minutes, depending on the manufacturer. Since the degree of processing varies depending on the provider, you must pay attention to the instructions on the packaging.
  • The situation is different with kale from the jar and from the can: you usually only have to simmer it for half an hour. Please also note the instructions on the packaging here.
  • Tip: If you want a little more flavor, you can simmer the kale in vegetable broth instead of water.
