A roasting bag is a type of tight-fitting plastic bag used for oven cooking. Meat and fish, but also vegetables can be cooked in the roasting tube. The result: the food is much juicier and more aromatic than with regular preparation in the oven. Minerals and vitamins are more likely to be preserved. And on top of that, you save calories because you don’t have to add as much fat as with other cooking methods.
Prepare all the ingredients you want to cook in the roasting tube by chopping everything as desired. You should also season beforehand. Note that spices have a more intense effect in the roasting tube. Tie one side of the roasting bag with heat-resistant twine and fill the other side with the ingredients. The vegetables should cover the bottom, on top you can place the meat or fish. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water or broth and then seal the other side of the roasting bag. Cut the tube slightly at the top.
Place the roasting tube on a baking sheet on the bottom shelf of the oven and cook as instructed in the recipe. Be careful not to let the foil touch the hot walls of the oven. Be careful when cutting the hose to avoid burning yourself on the hot steam.
Tip: Pour off the liquid and refine it into a tasty sauce.
