Stewing pointed cabbage: How to properly prepare the vegetables
When steaming, the pointed cabbage cooks in its own juice. To do this, you need to prepare the vegetables appropriately.
- Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and then quarter the vegetables.
- First, you have to cut the hard stalk out of the cabbage quarters in a wedge shape.
- You can steam the leaves whole, but then you should cut out the thick midrib from the individual leaves. As a rule, however, pointed cabbage is cut into short, fine strips.
- So that the healthy vegetables retain their fresh color when steaming, sprinkle the pointed cabbage with a little lemon juice after washing.
- Pointed cabbage doesn’t take long to cook. Three to four minutes should be enough. Then the vegetables still have a pleasant bite.
- To steam, place the pointed cabbage in the pot. Also, add a little butter. Depending on the amount of pointed cabbage, add 50 to 100ml of water or vegetable broth. Let the whole thing steam in the open pan for up to four minutes – the steamed vegetables are ready.
