Apple chips in the hot air fryer: this is how a healthy snack works
A hot air fryer is a healthy alternative to a regular deep fryer because it uses hot air instead of oil. This allows you to fry healthy food, while also saving you time and energy.
- In order for the apple rings to succeed, choose firm varieties. Boskoop, Braeburn, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Jonagold, and Pink Lady are good choices.
- Wash the apples thoroughly if you want to dry them with their skins on. Otherwise, peel the fruit.
- The next step is to remove the core casing. It is best to use an apple corer.
- Cut the apple into slices. Note that the thinner the slices, the crispier the rings will be. If you cut thicker slices, they will become softer later. The discs should not be thicker than 8 mm, otherwise, they will dry more difficult.
- Mix 200 ml of water with the juice of one lemon and bring the mixture to a boil. Put the apple slices in the boiling water for a minute. In this way, you avoid strong, brown discoloration, and the typical apple aroma is retained.
- Then pat the apple slices dry with a clean kitchen towel. They shouldn’t be too wet when you put them in the air fryer.
- Preheat the Airfryer to 90 degrees and then put the apple rings in to dry for 30 to 45 minutes. The duration depends on the thickness of the slices. Therefore, check the degree of drying after half an hour.
- Then let the rings cool down and put them in an airtight container that you keep dry, cool, and protected from light.
- It is important that these are stored as described and do not become damp. Otherwise, there is a risk of mold and bacteria forming. If stored correctly, the apple rings can be kept for two months.
