Dishwasher does not clean properly – causes and solutions
In the following we have summarized the most common reasons for dishes that remain dirty and give you suitable suggestions for a solution:
- Amount: Limit the number of dishes, otherwise the dishwasher will be too full and the water will not be able to get to every place. Make sure there is enough air between each plate. This is the only way to get all the dishes really clean.
- Limescale: A common cause of dirty dishes is too much limescale in the water and in the machine. The normal rinsing tabs already have a descaler, but this is powerless with very hard water. You should therefore also use regeneration salt.
- Temperature: For particularly stubborn food residues, wash the dishes at a very high temperature. Set the machine to at least 60 degrees Celsius, otherwise, you will not get the leftover food loosened. Tip: Use good detergent or dishwashing tabs that have a high cleaning effect. The right amount is also crucial, if there is not enough detergent your dishes will not be completely clean.
- Sieves and filters: Clean the sieves and filters in your dishwasher at regular intervals. Dirty spots and leftover food prevent your dishes from getting clean. To ensure that your machine is completely cleaned, you should have it flushed out every two to three months. You can also add special dishwasher detergent.
- Inlet: The problem may not be in your dishwasher but in the water inlet. This can also be calcified or dirty and reduce the water pressure. Also, check the water tap, it should be fully open. If the water pressure is too low, the required rinsing water is missing and the machine cannot work properly.
- Note: If you have ruled out all other causes, there may also be a general error in the machine. To be on the safe side, you should hire a specialist to completely check the machine. If the machine is very old, it may be worth buying a new one.
