Preparation of East Frisian tea
You need ten grams of East Frisian tea per liter of water, a piece of candy, and a dash of cream.
- First, pour the tea leaves with bubbly hot water. Fill the pot up to half.
- Let the tea steep for three to five minutes and then pour the remaining water into the pot.
- Put a piece of rock candy in a cup and fill it with the tea.
- Now add a dash of cream to the cup with a cream spoon. The cream sinks first and then rises again.
- Don’t stir the tea. The clouds that form in the drink from the cream are intentional and part of the experience.
- The tea is now ready to drink and offers a unique taste experience with every sip.
Interesting facts about East Frisian tea
Genuine East Frisian tea may only be mixed in East Friesland. For East Frisian tea, up to ten different types of black tea are combined. Assam tea is mainly used, which usually tastes of malt and honey.
- Genuine East Frisian tea may only be mixed in East Friesland. If the tea comes from another region, it is simply called an “East Frisian blend”.
- In order to fully develop its taste, the tea is traditionally prepared in a bulbous pot. This stands on a warmer so that the drink is always warm.
- The East Frisian tea gets its special aroma from the soft water of East Frisia.
- The porcelain tea cups are either decorated in blue and white or have a pattern with a red rose. Both variants should not be missing at an East Frisian tea ceremony.
- Traditionally, pastries are served with tea. Depending on the restaurant, other delicacies, such as raisin mares with butter, can also be served.
