Beetroot chips are a healthy snack between meals. Beetroot comes with a whole range of vitamins and minerals, making it a particularly healthy vegetable. So here’s how to make healthy chips.
Make your own beetroot chips
You don’t need a lot of ingredients to prepare beetroot chips. For two servings, all you need is three medium-sized beetroots, a tablespoon of vegetable oil, and some salt and spices.
- First, wash and peel the fresh beetroot. It is better to use an easily washable chopping board to prepare the vegetables because beetroot discolors material quickly.
- Cut the tubers into very thin slices, about one to two millimeters thick. This works best with a mandolin or a really sharp professional knife.
- Then salt the fine slices and let the salt soak in for a quarter of an hour. The salt removes the water from the vegetables, which in turn ensures that the chips are extra crispy.
- Now pour off the resulting water and then marinate the slices with cooking oil and herbs such as thyme and rosemary.
- Place the slices individually on a baking tray and bake the chips at 140 degrees for a good 45 to 60 minutes. You don’t necessarily have to preheat the oven.
- Check from time to time whether the beetroot chips are ready. To do this, let a slice cool and then test how crispy it is.
