Savoy cabbage among each other

Spread the love

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 1 head of savoy cabbage
  • 1 kg potatoes
  • 100 g bacon cubes
  • 1 onion(s), diced
  • 1 tsp, leveled salt
  • 1 pinch(s) of pepper
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg
  • cream
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp lard

Instructions

Working time approx. 35 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 5 minutes

Peel, boil, and mash the potatoes. Fry the bacon and onion in lard. Cut the savoy cabbage into strips, add it to a large pot with half a cup of water and the salt, and bring to a boil. Boil gently for about 3 minutes; there should be very little water in the pot at this point, which is how it should be. Turn off the heat, add the baking soda, and stir. Cover and let stand. Add pepper and nutmeg. Add the mashed potatoes and stir. Add a little cream and the fried onion and bacon cubes with the fat and stir well. Season again to taste. Serve with sausages, meatballs, chops, or farmer’s schnitzel (breaded, fried pork belly).
